In the Algarve, the southernmost province of Portugal, there are no less than 37 golf courses located east to west. Some are well-known, others less so, but according to international standards, many will agree that golfing in the Algarve is a fantastic experience. Whether you are a visitor or a resident, the experience is one to be remembered. Separate tee times can be reserved for members and visitors. Many golf courses in the Algarve will provide spacious times between starting golfers, so as to provide a good flow on the course without giving the impression that the course is saturated. Golf course architects include: Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Robert Trent Jones, Sir Henry Cotton, Nick Faldo, Severiano Ballesteros. The area around Vilamoura is especially a golfer's paradise with 11 different courses within a short distance from Vilamoura. The majority of them are 18 hole golf courses, although there are a number of 9 hole golf courses and a few short practice courses.
The European Tour hosts the Portuguese Masters event at the Oceânico Victoria course in Vilamoura, which in 2017 was presented for the eleventh time. This tournament is held in the third week of September.
